FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a full skirt collar and a short skirt collar?

It is important to understand that our short skirt collars are intended for all metal flashings. If there is any rubber integrated into the pipe opening of your roof flashing, you will need to opt for full skirt collars.

How do I determine pipe size?

1 1/2 in or 2 in. refers to the inside of the pipe where liquid would flow. The actual outside diameter for 1 1/2 in. is 1.9 inches. The actual outside diameter for 2 in. is 2.38 inches. For more on measuring pipe size, see this video

Can the collar be trimmed for different roof pitches?

Yes, but no trimming is necessary from 2/12 to 6/12 pitches.

Wouldn't plastic fail just like rubber?

No. The collar is made of the same ABS material as the pipes on most roofs and it's not the pipes that fail.

Does the collar need to be glued or caulked?

No, and when it comes time to re-roof, you'll be glad it's removable

Should I use pliers to tighten the nut?

No, hand tightening is sufficient and preferred
